Controlling Cropland Erosion

The purpose of this program is to help landowners protect valuable cropland soil resources from erosion by providing free technical expertise and cost sharing initiatives. Water quality is vastly improved when soil erosion interventions are put in place.

Funding

Landowners within the Lake Simcoe watershed may qualify for grants of 50 per cent of project costs for eligible projects, to a maximum of $10,000.Additional funds may be available from other environmental grant funding sources. LSRCA watershed coordinators will ensure that you are made aware of all the grant funding programs available to you.

What projects are eligible?

  • Grass waterways
  • Water and sediment control basins
  • Terraces and Drop structures

What costs may be covered?

  • Professional design.
  • Tile outlet protection, including rip rap or appropriate armour material, filter cloth, and rodent guards.
  • Contractors' labour and materials.

What isn't covered?

  • Machinery or equipment used by the applicant, family dependents, or the applicant's business.

Conditions

  • Design by professional engineers is advisable on complex and/or large projects.
  • Projects must be constructed according to Ontario Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) Soil Erosion Manual specifications.
  • All collected water must be taken to a sufficient and legal outlet.
  • Work that proceeds prior to funding approval does not qualify for funding assistance.
  • If you have an outstanding violation with the LSRCA or any other regulatory agency, you may not be eligible.
