Newmarket, Ontario – As anyone who travels along Davis Drive or Yonge Street in Newmarket during rush hour can attest, patience and extra time are mainstays of your trip. And with continued growth indicated in York Region, that drive could prove even longer and more frustrating in the years to come.

There are organizations out there offering real-life solutions to the one-car commuting challenge. The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority is pleased to announce its new partnership with Smart Commute Central York (SCCY). To celebrate the new partnership, the LSRCA will host a launch event on Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. The event will take place at the Conservation Authority office at 120 Bayview Parkway in Newmarket.

Mayor Tony Van Bynen, Town of Newmarket, Doug Peters, Chair, SCCY Advisory Board and Virginia Hackson, Chair, LSRCA, will be at the event to celebrate the partnership.

“We’re thrilled to be part of such a worthwhile endeavour. A partnership between the LSRCA and SCCY is a natural extension of the work we do. By participating, we’re hoping to send an encouraging message to other businesses in the community” says Virginia Hackson, LSRCA Chair.

SCCY is a program of the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce with funding and support from Metrolinx, York Region and the Town of Newmarket. SCCY has helped commuters prevent 198,000 kg of greenhouse gas emissions by eliminating over 14,000 car trips since 2006. Fourteen organizations with more than 11,000 employees have signed on to Smart Commute Central York.
